Pierogi is a traditional Polish meal. It looks like ravioli, but it is not ravioli. Here is the recipe...
Pierogi (polish dumplings)
- 1kg flour
- salt and pepper
- 500g mushrooms
- about 4 onions
- 1 cabbage (white)
To prepare the doe, put the flour in a bowl and add water until the doe gets tight but does not stick to the table. Kneed it well.
For the filling cut the cabbage, mushrooms and onions in very small peaces, boil the cabbage in water, until it is soft. Then fry everything together in oil, until the filling gets a slightly dark colour. Add salt and pepper. The filling should be quite spicy.
Roll out the doe in small portions, take a glass and with it edges cut out round pieces out of the doe.
To form pierogi put about one teaspoon of filling on a piece of doe and close it, making the edges stick well together so the pierogi do not fall apart later.
When all the doe and filling are used up, heat the pierogi in boiling salted water.
Serve them covered with hot oil and fried onions. :)
